Many animals will give the character that tamed them a passive buff for as long as they are part of the party. Other than the three dogs in the East side of the map, most other animals listed as showing up in the Ranger HQ are extremely skittish, functioning more like random events than any guaranteed spawn even with 10 Wasteland Whisperer and 10 Sneaky Stuff, they’ll still immediately bolt off the map the moment you enter their line of sight. My pets seldom live longer than a couple of engagements but are a nice damage buff nonetheless. Because of this, and because combat charming only lasts for a short duration, you can employ this method even if you already have an animal companion. Couple of fun dialog interactions so far, it helps on the world map as well (though other skills like survival usually work too). Polly the Parrot - Animal Whisperer 7 or Buy. This means that if you give each member of your party 1 skill point in Animal Whisperer, you can double your units in a sense (though the types of pets you can tame will depend on your skill level.)
